Additional information

The Dieppe Raid of August 19, 1942 was a catastrophe by almost any measure — of the roughly 6,100 Allied troops who landed, nearly 60% were killed, wounded, or captured within hours. Canadians bore the brunt: the 2nd Canadian Infantry Division suffered over 3,300 casualties in a single morning. The military lessons, however brutal, directly shaped the planning of the Normandy landings two years later.

This coin belongs to the RCM's six-coin WWII commemorative series issued across 2005–2006, each pairing a half-dollar denomination with a specific Canadian engagement.
