Part of the Royal Canadian Mint's folklore and legends series, this issue draws on the Prairie superstition surrounding small jumping mice — creatures historically blamed by settlers for spooked horses and ruined grain stores. The series was aimed squarely at the collector market from the outset, with no circulation intended, which means surviving examples spent their entire lives in capsules.
