Issued the year after Elizabeth II's death in September 2022, this is among the first wave of posthumous portrait coinage produced for Pacific Commonwealth territories still choosing to honor her on circulating-format issues. Solomon Islands had maintained Commonwealth membership since independence in 1978, and the monarchy remained constitutionally embedded until the country's ongoing sovereignty debates made such decisions politically charged.
