Obverse description The obverse bears the fourth-generation effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, depicting the monarch bare-headed and facing right, wearing a necklace and drop earrings, as rendered at approximately 77 years of age. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the upper periphery, with the denomination 50 CENTS and the issuer name CANADA arranged in the field. The portrait is rendered in a restrained, naturalistic style characteristic of Blunt's official coinage effigy.
