| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a diamond diadem and pearl drop earrings, with a pearl necklace at the truncation, as sculpted by Dora de Pédery-Hunt. The Queen's hair is elegantly coiffed beneath the ornate crown, rendered in fine relief against a mirror-polished proof field. The legend ELIZABETH II is inscribed along the left arc and D·G·REGINA along the right arc. A continuous border of raised beads frames the entire design. This is the fourth definitive portrait of the Queen used on Canadian coinage. |

The legend CANADA · 50 CENTS arcs across the upper field, while the commemorative dates 1888·1998 appear along the lower arc, marking the 110th anniversary of the Amateur Skating Association of Canada. The designer's initials appear discreetly in the lower left field. A beaded border encircles the entire reverse design. |
