Part of the Perth Mint's ongoing Australian Fauna series, this issue belongs to a run of fractional silver pieces that have quietly built a secondary collector market well beyond face value. The Arctic fox is not native to Australia — a deliberate curatorial choice by the Perth Mint to broaden the series into international wildlife subjects, a strategy it has employed with increasing regularity since the mid-2000s.
The .9999 fineness is notable; Perth was among the first sovereign-backed mints to shift its bullion and collector silver to four-nines purity as a differentiator from the more common .999 standard.
