| Obverse description | The sixth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II faces right, sculpted by Jody Clark, depicting Her Majesty wearing the George IV State Diadem and the Victorian Coronation Necklace. The portrait is rendered in high relief against a polished proof field, capturing fine detail in the crown jewels and royal regalia. The surrounding legend reads ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA, with the date and the engraver's initials JC positioned in the field. |

| Additional information |
The sixth portrait of Elizabeth II, sculpted by Jody Clark, was introduced by the Royal Mint in 2015 and adopted progressively across Commonwealth issuing authorities — the Royal Australian Mint being among the later adopters. Clark was a relatively junior engraver when selected, and his portrait was the first designed by an internal Royal Mint staff member since the 1960s. The Australian 50-cent denomination is notably unusual for gold proof issues of this weight class, given that the circulating coin is dodecagonal and base-metal; the round gold proof format exists entirely outside normal production parameters.
