| Additional information |
One of five coins released in 2022 under the Royal Australian Mint's Australian Railway Heritage series, this piece honours South Australia's rail network — the colony that opened Australia's first steam-powered passenger railway in 1856, running between Adelaide and Port Adelaide. Pad printing, a technique borrowed from industrial parts-marking, allows the Mint to apply colour to a curved metallic surface without the tolerancing problems of traditional enamelling.
