Additional information

Australia's lunar series coins from the Perth Mint have been issued annually since 1996, cycling through the twelve-year Chinese zodiac calendar. The 2018 Dog issue falls within the second full lunar cycle for the series, which relaunched in 2008 with updated designs. Perth's half-ounce silver lunar pieces in this cycle are struck to proof-like bullion standards — not quite proof, but finished with more care than a typical circulation strike — and carry a nominal face value that bears no relationship to actual silver content or market value.
