Issued to mark the centenary of the Gallipoli landings, this coin belongs to a broader commemorative program timed to April 25, 2015 — the hundredth anniversary of the day Australian and New Zealand forces came ashore at Anzac Cove under Ottoman fire. New Zealand lost roughly 2,700 men at Gallipoli, a figure that struck hard for a country whose total population at the time barely exceeded one million.
