Skippy the Bush Kangaroo ran for three seasons between 1968 and 1970, becoming one of the most successfully exported Australian television productions of the twentieth century — broadcast in over 128 countries. The 2020 issue marks fifty years since the series ended production at Waratah Park near Sydney, which operated as a wildlife reserve and tourist attraction largely on the strength of the show's name until closing in 1995.
Pad printing on circulating fifty-cent blanks remains an occasional RAM technique for commemorative colour issues, applied after striking.
