Obverse description The fourth crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II faces right, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara, as modelled by sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley. The legend ELIZABETH II encircles the upper field, with AUSTRALIA and the date 2012 below, accompanied by the engraver's initials IRB beneath the portrait truncation. The refined, mature likeness captures fine detail characteristic of proof minting.

Additional information

The Diamond Jubilee marked Elizabeth II's 60th year on the throne — only the second British monarch to reach that milestone, after Victoria in 1897. The Royal Australian Mint issued this piece as part of a broader Commonwealth-wide commemorative program in 2012, though Australia's entry was notably heavier than most equivalents, placing it firmly in bullion-adjacent territory despite its proof finish.

The fourth portrait, by Ian Rank-Broadley, had been in use since 1998.
