Obverse description The obverse features the fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by Ian Rank-Broadley, depicted as a right-facing crowned bust with curled hair, wearing the George IV State Diadem. The portrait is rendered in high relief against a frosted field, set within a polished annular border. The legend 'ELIZABETH II' arcs across the upper field, flanked by dot stops, with 'AUSTRALIA' continuing along the right periphery. The denomination '50 CENTS' appears in the lower legend, and the engraver's initials 'IRB' are incused beneath the truncation.

Additional information

Australia's Kookaburra silver bullion series, launched in 1990, is notable for changing its reverse design annually — a deliberate strategy by the Perth Mint to drive collector demand alongside investor buying. The 2012 issue was produced during a period of sustained silver price strength following the post-2008 metals rally, which significantly boosted bullion coin sales globally and pushed Perth Mint output to record levels that year.

KM#1799 corresponds to the half-ounce denomination, the series' smallest standard bullion size.
