Obverse description The obverse bears the fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by Ian Rank-Broadley, depicting the Queen in right-facing profile with a girlande tiara and earring, her hair styled in a short curl. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the upper left periphery, with AUSTRALIA and the date 2001 continuing around the right and lower right rim. The engraver's initials IRB appear in small relief below the truncation of the neck. The proof surface presents a deeply mirrored field contrasting sharply with the frosted portrait relief.
