Additional information

Australia committed combat troops to Vietnam in 1965 under the National Service Act, making it one of the few conflicts where Australian soldiers were conscripted through a birthday ballot. By the time the last troops withdrew in 1972, the war had fractured Australian society more deeply than any conflict since the Great War — returning veterans were frequently met with hostility rather than recognition, a reception that took decades and the 1987 Welcome Home Parade to formally address.

The pad-printed color application on this issue was applied at the RAM using a process adapted from commercial printing technology, allowing photographic-quality detail impossible through conventional coin dies.
