Part of the Royal Australian Mint's 2016 Classic Australian Cars series, this issue commemorates the Holden FX — the first car manufactured under the Holden name, launched in November 1948. The FX's release was a significant industrial moment for Australia, ending the country's dependence on imported vehicles in the postwar period. General Motors-Holden had been assembling imported components since the 1920s, but the 215 designation marked the first fully Australian-made model, with Ben Chifley famously declaring it "Australia's own car" at the launch.
