Pitcairn issues coinage through a licensing arrangement rather than any domestic minting infrastructure — the islands have no mint, no banking system in the conventional sense, and a population that has rarely exceeded fifty people. These coins circulate in name only; nearly all are absorbed immediately by the collector market, making genuine circulation wear essentially nonexistent on any example.
