Obverse description Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II as a young woman, modeled at approximately 27 years of age, designed by Mary Gillick. The portrait depicts the Queen with a laurel wreath in her hair and a draped neckline, rendered in a restrained classical style. The circular legend reads ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA M·G· around the upper periphery, with the initials M·G· referencing the engraver. The field is uncluttered, allowing the portrait to command the full visual weight of the obverse. Two major obverse varieties exist for this series, distinguished by the presence or absence of a shoulder fold on the Queen's garment.
