| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the George IV State Diadem and a draped bust, as modelled by Cecil Thomas. The portrait, characteristic of the first definitive effigy used on Hong Kong coinage from 1955, presents the Queen in a youthful likeness with elaborately styled hair beneath the ornate crown. The circular legend reads QUEEN ELIZABETH THE SECOND around the periphery, with the text divided left and right of the portrait. A continuous beaded border frames the design. |
