The Bahamas gained independence from Britain in 1973, but this series predates that break — issued while the islands were still a self-governing Crown Colony under the 1969 constitution. The Central Bank itself had only been established in 1974, meaning these coins were actually issued by the Bahamas Monetary Authority, a technicality that occasionally trips up catalogers. The transition to full independence that year effectively ended this type.
