The 1904 Open Championship was held at Royal St George's in Sandwich, Kent — the first time the tournament had been staged there. Jack White won with a score of 296, becoming the first player to break 300 for 72 holes in Open history. That record stood for only a year.

This is one of several Canadian commemorative halves from the late 1990s issued to mark British golf milestones, a series that drew predictable criticism for its loose connection to Canadian numismatic history.
