Zimbabwe's 1980 independence coinage was prepared in multiple compositions as the new Reserve Bank evaluated options for the circulating series. This copper-nickel striking represents a rejected alternative — the production 50-cent coin ultimately went forward in a different specification, leaving pattern pieces like this one outside the regular series entirely.
