NORAD — the North American Aerospace Defense Command — was established in 1958 as a joint US-Canadian operation, its Cheyenne Mountain headquarters tunneled into Colorado granite specifically to survive a nuclear first strike. The Solomon Islands has no geographic or historical connection to the command, making this one of the more geographically incongruous Cold War commemoratives in the current collector market.
Gold-plated iron strikes are prone to micro-corrosion at edge strike points where plating thins. Store accordingly.
