| Reverse description | The reverse bears a highly detailed high-relief depiction of the Angel of Independence, modelled after the celebrated bronze Victory figure crowning the Monument to Independence (El Ángel) in Mexico City. The winged female figure is shown in dynamic three-quarter pose, her right arm raised aloft holding a laurel wreath, while her left arm extends to the side holding broken chains. Her flowing drapery and large outstretched wings are rendered with exceptional sculptural detail. The entire composition is shaped as a contour-cut flan precisely following the silhouette of the statue, set against a mirror-polished gold field. |

At 0.0311 g this is a 1/1000 oz fractional — one of the smallest gold denominations in current production anywhere. Niue's arrangement with the New Zealand Mint has made it a vehicle for exactly this kind of micro-bullion issue, where legal tender status is nominal and the product is collectible by weight class rather than face value.
