Additional information

Graham Bell's telephone patent — filed 14 February 1876, just hours before a competing application from Elisha Gray — triggered one of the most litigated disputes in the history of intellectual property. The U.S. Patent Office awarded Bell priority by the narrowest procedural margin imaginable. Niue has quietly become one of the more prolific issuers of fractional gold in the Pacific commemorative market, producing sub-half-gram pieces at this diameter with some regularity for collector circuits rather than any realistic circulation purpose.
