The Royal Australian Mint has produced annual Christmas 50-cent pieces since 1998, making this one of the longer-running seasonal coin programs among Commonwealth mints. The dodecagonal 50-cent format used here has been Australian legal tender since 1969, when the original round version was replaced partly to aid vending machine differentiation. This is among the first Christmas issues to feature the effigy of Charles III following his accession in 2022.
