Camp Barnes was a U.S. Army installation in Texas, and like many wartime posts, its Officers Club operated its own scrip to keep spending on-base and simplify accounting — federal regulations discouraged cash transactions within club facilities. This 50-cent denomination would have covered a drink or two at the bar, which was the practical ceiling for fractional scrip in most Officers Club systems.

Military post scrip from this period survives in wildly uneven numbers. Some camps printed thousands of pieces; others ran small batches that were redeemed and pulped within months of the post closing.
