| Additional information |
Redonda is a uninhabited rock in the Caribbean, roughly one square kilometre, that has sustained a claim to "kingdom" status since the 1860s when an Irish merchant named Matthew Dowdy Shiell proclaimed it for his son. The title passed through a succession of literary figures — most notably the sci-fi author M.P. Shiel and later Jon Wynne-Tyson — before devolving into competing claimants issuing rival nobilities and novelty coinage for the collector market.
This piece has no monetary function whatsoever. Redonda has no population, no government, and no legal tender framework.
