Additional information

The switch to copper-plated steel for this denomination reflects Sri Lanka's broader cost-reduction measures during a period when the civil war with the LTTE was placing sustained pressure on government finances. Nickel-brass and other alloy compositions had become economically impractical for low-value coinage. The .2b suffix in the KM reference distinguishes this plating variant from earlier strikes in the same basic design run.
