Obverse description The large numeral '50' dominates the upper centre of the field, with the circular legend 'REPUBLIC OF KENYA' arcing above and 'FIFTY CENTS' along the lower periphery, all in raised Latin lettering. The Kenyan coat of arms — depicting two lions rampant supporting a shield adorned with an axe and spears, above a cockerel and the national motto ribbon — is rendered in fine detail in the lower central field. The four-digit date is split on either side of the shield, reading '20' at left and '05' at right.
