Obverse description The obverse features a stylised Zimbabwe Bird, the national emblem, rendered in profile and facing left atop a carved soapstone plinth. The bird is modelled after the soapstone sculptures discovered at the ruins of Great Zimbabwe, dating to the 11th–15th centuries and associated with the ancestors of the Shona people. The country name ZIMBABWE appears as a legend along the upper rim, with the date below along the lower field. The design is engraved by Barry Stanton in a clean, sculptural style befitting the coin's national symbolism.
