Obverse description Embossed edge. Two concentric rings. In the outer ring, flanked to the left by five-pointed star, the caption: 100th ANNIVERSARY 1859 CELEBRATION 1959 OREGON. In the inner ring, factory chimneys smoking on both sides. Below a 19th century carriage pulled up by oxen being whipped. The front of the oxen a woodcutter under a pine tree. In front of the pine tree a man on horseback. This set of chariot, pine and rider is accented on a streamer with the words: FRONTIER OF THE FUTURE. Below the Centennial pennant. In the center several elements namely: a mountain (in the background); an airplane (above the top of the mountain); a ship (left); an energy transmission tower with a beam coming out of it; a train; a bus; foliage; a fish. Overlapping all rings is the seal of the state of Oregon.
