Vilanova de Prades is a small municipality in the Conca de Barberà comarca of Tarragona, and like hundreds of other Catalan towns it issued its own fractional emergency currency during the Civil War period when coinage effectively vanished from circulation. The Ajuntament turned to Imprenta Mestres in nearby Montblanc — a practical choice given the town's size and limited means, and Montblanc served as a regional printing hub for several such local issues in the comarca.

Turró #2853 places this among the documented Catalan Civil War municipals, though surviving examples are scarce simply because most small-run local issues were redeemed or discarded once the crisis passed.
