Vilanova de la Barca is a small municipality in the Lleida province of Catalonia, and like hundreds of similar towns it issued its own emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after the Republican government's hoarding crisis drained metallic coin from circulation almost entirely by late 1936. The Generalitat de Catalunya had authorized local bodies to fill the gap, producing a chaotic proliferation of *moneda local* across the region.
Turró catalogues this emission as 2825 — a number deep into a sequence that reflects just how many municipalities took up that authorization. Small-town issues from the Lleida interior tend to survive in lower quantities than urban equivalents simply due to smaller print runs and narrower circulation areas.
