| Obverse description | Letterpress-printed note on light blue paper with the full text of the municipal guarantee rendered in blue ink, enclosed within a geometric rectangular border. The inscriptions, arranged in centred blocks, convey the denomination, issuing authority, and legal tender clause for local circulation. The overall layout is typographic, with no pictorial vignette, relying entirely on text and the ruled perimeter frame for its design. |

Vilanova de la Barca is a small municipality in the Lleida interior, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish Republican towns during 1936–1937, its ajuntament issued emergency fractional currency to compensate for the near-total disappearance of metallic coinage from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply gone. These local issues, collectively catalogued in the Turró reference, were a patchwork solution to a practical crisis, not a coordinated monetary policy. Many were printed on whatever stock the town hall had available, which is why paper quality varies so dramatically within the series.
Turró 2823 is among the more obscure entries from the Lleida province. Documentation on print runs is essentially nonexistent.
