Tremp is a small Catalan town in the Pallars Jussà comarca, and like hundreds of Spanish municipalities it issued its own emergency paper during the Civil War after the Republican government's 1937 decree authorizing local authorities to produce fractional currency to address the near-total disappearance of metallic coin from circulation. These municipal notes were produced locally, often without professional printing equipment, and the results varied enormously in technical quality.
Turró catalogues well over two thousand such issues; #2607 places Tremp's 50 céntimos toward the denser end of the registry, reflecting how many competing local issuers operated simultaneously across Catalonia in 1937–38.
