Casa Sanabre was a pork butcher and general provisions shop — "tocineria i queviures" — in Torredembarra, a small coastal town in Tarragona. Like hundreds of Catalan commercial enterprises during the Civil War years, it issued its own paper fractional currency to address the near-total disappearance of small coin from circulation after July 1936. The Republican government's inability to supply adequate coinage to the rear economy forced grocers, cooperatives, and municipal councils alike into emergency emission.
Imprenta Unió Obrera — the Workers' Union Press — printed numerous such vales across the region. The AL#2546 reference places this within the Altés catalogue of Catalan local issues, a series that now runs to thousands of distinct emissions from that three-year period.
