Tiurana was a small municipality in the comarca of La Noguera, Lleida, and like hundreds of Catalan towns during the Spanish Civil War, it resorted to locally printed emergency fractional currency when Republican-zone coinage essentially vanished from circulation in 1936–37. The Generalitat de Catalunya authorized municipal issues to fill the gap, but production quality and survival rates varied wildly — notes from settlements this small were printed in tiny quantities and used hard until they disintegrated.
Turró catalogues this as #2475, placing it within a well-documented but still incompletely surveyed series. Surviving examples from villages of Tiurana's size are genuinely uncommon.
