Sort is a small town in the Pallars Sobirà comarca of Lleida, Catalonia, and like hundreds of Spanish municipalities it issued its own emergency paper money during the Civil War after the Republic's coinage supply collapsed in 1936–37. These local issues — known collectively as the "Guerra Civil" municipals — were produced by whatever printer happened to be available nearby. Here, that was Josep Güell's press in La Pobla de Segur, roughly 20 kilometres south along the Noguera Pallaresa valley.

Turró 2398 is among the more obscure entries in that catalogue, and surviving examples in any condition are infrequently offered.
