| Obverse description | Brown letterpress note with a floral perimeter frame enclosing a central allegorical vignette of the Spanish Republic personified as a seated woman in a Phrygian cap, holding a torch and cornucopia, with a republican shield at her side. A light underprint underlies the composition throughout. Marginal inscriptions in the upper and lower registers identify the issuing municipal council and declare the exclusively local character of the emission. |

Sonseca con Casalgordo is a municipality in Toledo province, and like hundreds of Spanish towns it issued its own fractional emergency currency during the Civil War after the Republic's small-denomination coinage essentially vanished from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply absent. These municipal issues, collectively known as billetes locales or moneda de necesidad, were technically illegal under central Republican authority but tolerated out of necessity. The Consejo Municipal issues from Sonseca are among the more obscure Toledan examples, with extremely limited documented survival.
