Sentmenat is a small municipality in the Vallès Occidental, and this 50 céntimos note is a product of the fractional currency crisis that swept Republican Catalonia in 1937. The withdrawal of metallic coins from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply gone — forced hundreds of town councils to print their own emergency paper. Turró catalogues over two thousand such issues; this is one of them.

The dual signature requirement, with both the finance councillor and the alcalde-president countersigning, reflects the political structure of wartime municipal governance under the Generalitat. Whether those signatures were applied individually or via facsimile stamp varies across surviving examples of Catalan municipal notes from this period.
