Rubite is a small municipality in the Alpujarra region of Granada province. Like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War, its local council issued small-denomination paper fractional currency — known as *Guerra Civil* emergency issues — to address the near-total disappearance of metallic coinage from circulation after 1936. The Republican zone suffered acute small-change shortages almost immediately, and municipal councils, cooperatives, and even individual businesses filled the gap with locally printed scrip.

The Garicoin reference places this firmly in the documented corpus of Andalusian municipal issues, though Rubite examples surface rarely. Population of the town at the time was under a thousand.
