Rodonyà is a tiny municipality in the Baix Penedès comarca of Tarragona — during the Spanish Civil War its population numbered only a few hundred — yet like hundreds of similarly small Catalan and Spanish towns it issued its own emergency fractional currency in 1937 when Republican-zone coinage effectively vanished from circulation. The central government and the Generalitat de Catalunya both attempted to address the coin shortage, but local ajuntaments filled the gap faster and more practically.

Barnadas, based in nearby El Vendrell, printed emergency notes for multiple municipalities across the Baix Penedès during this period, which accounts for the family resemblance between several small-town issues from the comarca.
