Rocallaura is a tiny municipality in the Conca de Barberà district of Catalonia — its 1937 population barely reached a few hundred. Like hundreds of other Catalan and Aragonese localities during the Civil War, the town issued its own emergency fractional currency after the hoarding of metal coin and Republican government notes created a near-total collapse of small-denomination liquidity. These local issues, collectively documented under the Turró catalog, number in the thousands and vary wildly in production quality.
