Rellinars is a tiny municipality in the Vallès Occidental comarca of Catalonia, with a population that barely reached a few hundred during the 1930s. Like dozens of similarly small Catalan and Valencian towns, it issued its own emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after the Republic's small-denomination coinage effectively vanished from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply overwhelmed by wartime disruption.

The Centre d'Administració Municipal in Barcelona served as a centralised printing and administrative service for smaller Catalan municipalities that lacked the means to produce their own notes independently. Turró catalogues over two thousand such local issues, and this 50 céntimos falls mid-sequence in that registry.
