Obverse description Allegorical seated figure of Hispania reclines in left profile upon rocky ground, wearing a mural crown and holding an olive branch extended in her right hand. Two six-pointed stars flank the figure in the field. The legend ESPAÑA arcs across the upper portion of the coin, and the date 1870 appears in the exergue below the figure. The engraver's initials L·M· are incuse in the lower field near the base. The design is framed by a beaded border and reflects the neo-classical allegorical style characteristic of the Spanish Provisional Government coinage.
