Pont d'Armentera is a small municipality in the Alt Camp comarca of Tarragona province, and like hundreds of Catalan towns during the Civil War, its ajuntament issued emergency fractional currency when the Republic's small-denomination coinage effectively vanished from circulation in 1936–37. These hyper-local issues — sometimes printed in runs of only a few hundred — were legal tender only within the issuing municipality's boundaries, making cross-town redemption essentially worthless and out-of-town survival rates correspondingly low.
Imprenta Solé of Tarragona handled a number of these municipal issues from the surrounding comarca, which gives the printing a degree of consistency unusual for wartime emergency notes of this scale.
