Pla del Cadí is a small municipality in the Alt Urgell comarca of Catalonia, and like hundreds of similarly tiny communities, it issued emergency fractional currency during the Spanish Civil War after the Republican government's decree of 1937 effectively authorized local bodies to produce their own small-denomination notes to address the near-total disappearance of coin from circulation. The Turró catalog documents thousands of these local emissions, and the sheer quantity of issuing bodies — many with print runs likely numbering in the low hundreds — means individual survival rates vary wildly.
Condition is everything with Pla del Cadí issues. Low original quantities combined with the chaos of the post-war period make any surviving example worth careful scrutiny.
