One of hundreds of emergency fractional issues produced by anarcho-syndicalist collectives during the Spanish Civil War, this note reflects the practical reality of collectivized Catalonia: the CNT-FAI effectively controlled local economies in much of the region by late 1936, and municipalities printed their own scrip simply because Republican central authority had neither the capacity nor the reach to supply adequate small change. Pineda, a small coastal town north of Barcelona, issued through its local collectivization committee rather than any municipal government body — the CNT affiliation printed openly on the note itself was not incidental but a deliberate declaration of economic governance.
Gràfiques Calella, a local commercial printer a few kilometers down the coast, handled production for several of these Civil War issues. The AL#495 reference places this within Amorós Llordén's exhaustive census of Catalan Civil War emergency currency.
