Perafort is a small municipality in the Camp de Tarragona, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish towns during the Civil War, it issued its own fractional emergency currency when the Republican government's coin supply collapsed in 1937. The Ajuntament turned to Imprenta Solé, a local Tarragona printer, rather than any central authority — which is why these municipal issues vary so dramatically in production quality from town to town.
The sole security measure is an official municipal stamp, applied by hand. Without it, the note had no legal standing within the commune's exchange system.
